We find comfort among those who agree with us -- growth among those who don't.

Let me tell you about a place, it’s a community of neighbors that live and care about each other. A place where opportunity a rises and prosperity can happen for all. Business, residents and government formed a long term partnership to support and provide for each other. The people have made a commitment to look toward building a better future on strong solid building blocks that can be laid today. This place sounds like a utopia but it forming off an exit of Interstate 70 in Etna Township.

I believe this idea is not just a dream but a vision of our community the Etna Township Trustees, zoning committee and other local officials have embraced. They are trying to foster a long term partnership with the business of Etna. The rezoning for Screen Machine and creation of the JEDZ are perfect example of the growth that is coming. This growth is built on ethical companies that are upfront with the community about who, what and how they are. Looking to add value to our community and grow for the benefit of the community.

The Etna Township Trustees, zoning committee and other local official know this growth must be controlled. The infrastructure needs to be in place to facilitate the grown not elevate tribulations from growth. Etna Township is taking that long term vision and preparing today for tomorrow by adding water to cover south of Interstate 70.

Denying the rezoning on 310 was the right thing to do. It would have put more traffic on the corner of Refugee Road and 310 where Township official are already working to get a traffic light to make the intersection safer for the community because increase traffic. It would have also funneled traffic into the residential development of Cumberland Trails. Increased traffic from 70 would strain an already dangerous intersection of Pike and 310.

We can see what happens if growth is uncontrolled. The hope that the growth will bring this abundance of wealth that it promises may not materialize or be short lived. Brice boomed and grew. Traffic became a problem so people stopped going as often. Stores moved like Best Buy to 256, leaving huge empty buildings that are still vacant. 256 didn’t learn form Brice and allowed the growth to over take the capacity. Traffic is bad there also and the question is how long will the boom be sustained. Sawmill road is a mess to get in and out of off of 270 during rush hour and Friday nights.

“All change is not growth; as all movement is not forward,” said Ellen Glasgow an American novelist. I think we can see that in Pataskala. They are trying to change a lot but they are not growing. They talk about getting a flow of traffic into the city to help generate income but bulk at us fixing the light at 310 and Refugee Road although they have plans for a strip mall or some kind of development. They want to rezone for industrial parks and manufacturing parks but don’t have business looking to locate there. They want a income tax to pull funds from an economical lacking community.

Etna Township needs the right kind of business, council, and residents that want to foster a long term relationship of caring and growing. We need an atmosphere of expansion for the shake of stability. I think we are accomplishing that goal. It is slow and we will have battles with others who want quick fixes and quick returns. Thank you to all who are working together to achieve the dream.
